Riihimaki Collectible Vintage mid century 70s art glass ‘TIMALASI’ vase model 1441 by designer Nanny Still.

Also known by her married name Nanny Still-McKinney was one of Finland’s best known glass and ceramic designers. She trained at the Central School of Art and Design and, on graduating, went to work as a glass designer for Riihmäki. She worked for them until the 1970s, although from 1959 she was living with her husband the designer George McKinney in Brussels. From 1977 she designed both in glass and ceramics for Rosenthal and was also responsible for designs in a variety of materials: wood, silver, steel and aluminium. She won the Pro Finlandia medal in 1972 and the Diploma of Honour at the Triannale in Milan in 1954.

Riihimäki glass (Finnish: Riihimäen lasi) was a reputed glass company in Riihimäki, Finland, in operation from 1910, when it was founded by Mikko Adolf Kolehmainen, to 1990. Their production ranged from basic to high quality glass ornaments, which are now sought after as collectibles, especially some of their vases. Riihimäki products are readily available via collectors’ web sites, as are their values. It produced everyday glassware and art glass until 1976 and cut glass until 1977. After that, it made only glass and plastic packaging. Ahlstrom Corporation purchased the company in 1980, and closed the Riihimäki plant in 1990.
